The US president and his wife have arrived in London ahead of schedule. They were forced to out-run the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud and cut short their trip to Ireland. Their state visit comes ahead of the G8 meeting in Paris on Thursday.
Barack Obama spent a cheerful day in the Irish Republic visiting his ancestral home in Moneygall and even taking time for a traditional tipple in the local pub.
He made an uplifting speech to a massive Dublin crowd which was well received. But there was one hitch: the presidential Cadillac – built to withstand bombs and bullets – found a Dublin speed hump a challenge too far and became stuck on the ramp with a loud bump.
