Syrian security forces have opened fire on mourners in the central city of Homs during a mass funeral for ten people killed by government troops.
A human rights lawyer claimed as many as 11 people have been shot dead.
Witnesses say that as the bereaved left the cemetery they chanted “overthrow the regime” before coming under fire.
Others were wounded in the attacl. Five people were reportedly taken to hospital suffering from gunshot wounds to the legs and arms.
Reports out of Syria are difficult to verify as the Syrian government has banned most independent media from working in the country.
In the suburbs of Damascus, one person is believed dead after anti-government demonstrations broke out.
