Israel’s prime minister has rejected US President Obama’s vision for the borders of a future Palestinian state.

Speaking at the White House, Benjamin Netanyahu said the proposal would leave Israel with an “indefensible” frontier.

Obama has embraced a long-standing Palestinian demand that the state they seek should largely be drawn along lines that existed before the 1967 war.

Peace talks collapsed late last year when Palestinians walked away in a dispute over Israeli settlement building.

Obama’s new push for peace has opened one of the deepest divides in years in relations between the US and Israel.
