Norwegians have been celebrating their national holiday, known as Constitution Day.

The Royal Family also joined in the festivities, appearing on the balcony of the Royal Castle in Oslo wearing traditional costumes. The day marks the anniversary of Norway’s independence on May 17, 1814.

It was celebrated by Norwegian communities around the world, with some of the biggest parades in Russia, Spain, Australia and the US.

The event was also marked by Norwegian soldiers serving with ISAF in Meymaneh, Afghanistan.
