Libyan rebels, bouyed by their success in taking control of the airport at Misrata, are planning further advances on the military and diplomatic fronts
They say they are now planning to move on to the western town of Zintan, which is still under control of forces loyal to Colonel Muamar Gaddafi.
Capturing the airport was seen as a significant boost for the rebels, particularly as they managed to seize heavy weapons abandoned by Gaddafi’s troops.
But both sides have struggled to keep military gains and the rebels say they need more help from NATO to hold their ground.
Separately, their leaders are hoping to win further support from the White House when they meet senior officials in Washington on Friday.
As the conflict intensifies there are reports of fresh clashes along the border with Tunisia.
