State television shows Libyan leader

Libyan State Television has broadcast pictures of Muammar Gaddafi claiming they were taken some time yesterday, May 11.

Although this cannot be independently verified, if accurate it is the first time the Libyan leader has been seen in public since the death of his son in a NATO airstrike on April 30.

The pictures showed Gaddafi apparently meeting tribal leaders in a Tripoli hotel.

A recent upsurge in NATO airstrikes on the capital coupled with Gaddafi’s absence from view had given rise to rumours the leader had been injured or worse in one of the raids.
