Golfing legend Severiano Ballesteros has died after a long battle against cancer.
In a statement on his website members of his family say he passed away early on Saturday morning at his home in northern Spain.
He first underwent surgery for a brain tumour in 2008 after collapsing at Madrid airport. On Friday his condition worsened seriously.
Seve Ballesteros, who was 54, won dozens of titles and five majors in a 33-year career.
His heyday came in the 1980s when he won three British Open and two Masters titles.
Described as an icon in the game, Ballesteros also had a successful Ryder Cup career – winning it four times as a player – before steering Europe to victory over the US as captain in 1997.
