Media report sparks Greek euro exit fear

Greece could leave the euro, according to media reports. The country is said to have raised the possibility of exiting the European single currency in discussions with the EU commission and other member states, Germany’s Spiegal online says.

Euro zone finance ministers were also reported to be holding emergency meetings in Luxembourg on Friday to discuss the Greek crisis. But, Berlin has been quick to counter the internet magazine’s claims, insisting ‘‘An exit is not planned and was not planned.’‘

Only last May, Athens received a 110 billion euro bailout from the EU and IMF with fears its debt crisis would spark contagion in the eurozone.
