This week’s Europe Weekly review focuses on the impact of Osama bin Laden’s death. The EU’s anti-terror chief has called for vigilance following the US led operation in Pakistan to kill the head of al-Qaeda. We look at the consequences for European security.

We also examine Portugal’s massive multi-billion euro bailout after it agreed the financial rescue deal with the EU and IMF. Lisbon insists it will protect Portugal, but not every inside the debt stricken country is convinced.

European immigration was another major story hitting the headlines. In particular, a possible shake up of the Schengen agreement, which allows free movement of people within the EU. Responding to the boatloads of North African immigrants following unrest in the Arab world, Brussels appears ready to let member states temporarily restore border controls in times of crisis.

Next week sees us travel to Strasbourg for the European Parliament’s Plenary Session. We will continue to keep an eye on migration, as well as the EU Foreign Affairs Council and the Final of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
