As the 2014 World Cup nears, security is a big challenge for Brazil. Authorities in Rio de Janeiro have set up a major operation centre using all the latest technology.

In the main control room, a giant wall of screens displays images from hundreds of cameras dotted around the city, as well as interactive maps and satellite shots. Twenty city agencies share centre space in order to respond quickly to emergencies.
