Obama plays the Trump card to raise a laugh

The US President Barack Obama has made a humorous attack on the property billionaire Donald Trump.

He opened his address to the White House press corps dinner in Washington with: ‘My fellow Americans,’ a dig at Trump who was in the audience. He and other republicans had fuelled rumours that Obama was not US-born and so ineligible to be president.

He also poked fun at Trump’s aspirations to the presidency.

‘Say what you want about Mr. Trump,’ Obama said, ‘but he certainly would bring change to the White House.’ At that point giant screens in the ballroom flashed up a doctored picture of ‘The Trump White House’ mocking the mogul’s penchant for naming buildings after himself.

Recently, Obama made public his birth certificate to quash persistent rumours that he had been born either in Kenya or Indonesia.

The audience howled with laughter as Obama joked that Trump would be pleased the issue was finally resolved, so the mogul could get back to pressing issues, like ‘was there really a moon-landing’ and ‘what really happened at Roswell?’
