Hammer time for Branagh

cinema

The latest comic-book superhero to take to the silver screen is Thor – the hammer-wielding Norse god of thunder and lightning who is exiled to Earth.

The action adventure is directed by Oscar-nominated Kenneth Branagh, who is best known internationally for his acclaimed film versions of Shakespeare plays.

Branagh plays much of the god-human interaction for laughs and Thor is forced to undergo all sorts of indignities before he can return to his former glories and save the Earth from an invasion by the Frost Giants from his home universe.

The critics mostly enjoyed the film with comments like “terrific, freewheeling gusto” – “accessible, coherent and engaging” and “Norse nonsense, but great fun”.
