The United States has launched its first Predator drone strike on Libya.
The US Defense Department has not provided details of the bombing, except that it occurred early in the afternoon local time. On Thursday Washington announced that unmanned aircraft would allow more precise attacks on forces loyal to Muammar Gadaffi.
The use of armed drones has been welcomed by Libyans in the rebel held eastern city of Benghazi.
The aircraft, which can stay in the air for 24 hours, have already been used to target militants along Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan.
