In Yemen, the demonstrations continue. In response to the continuing unrest, the United Arab Emirates are sending their foreign minister to Yemen to attempt mediation leading to a peaceful transfer of power.
So far however, President Ali Abdullah Saleh has remained defiant, refusing to step down and accusing protesters of instigating conspiracies and coups. He says he will go at the next elections in 2013 but not before. Violence has increased in recent days as protesters march in new areas and burn tyres in the street. Amateur video footage has shown demonstrators apparently coming under fire from security forces.
Onlookers and allies of Yemen fear that if this crisis is prolonged it could play into the hands of al Qaeda and similar extremist groups.
It is estimated that at least 123 people have died since the protests began in January.
