In Rome the authorities have banned the consumption of alcohol on the famous Campo dei Fiori after 11pm. Young binge drinkers have been gathering in the square late at night indulging in the sorts of behaviour that the locals do not appreciate, such as taking their clothes off.

Following an incident in which a naked drunk was seriously assaulted, the authorities have now banned drinking in this square from 11pm to 6am. The offence carries an instant 50 euro fine.

The ban could now be extended to other areas.
