Nestle, the world’s biggest food group, has posted better than expected first-quarter results despite a sharp rise in commodity prices.

The Swiss-based giant said matters were made better by strong emerging market growth.

Food groups are facing price hikes for coffee beans, cocoa, milk, grain and crude oil.

The rises are being passed on to customers.
