Inflation across the euro zone is up from 2.4 per cent to 2.7 per cent in February as a result of an upsurge in transport and housing costs.

The rise is higher that expected.

It is the fourth month in a row that euro zone inflation has passed the 2 per cent mark as laid down by the ECB.

Inflation varied from country to country, in Ireland it was 1.2 per cent, while in Estonia inflation hit 5.1 per cent.
