German truck maker MAN is to start building vehicles in Russian to take advantage of that high growth market.

The company, which is 30 percent owned by Volkswagen, will use an existing facility in Saint Petersburg which will enable it to get up and running by early next year. The plan is to build 6,000 vehicles per year.

Russia’s truck market collapsed during the financial crisis but has rebounded this year.

The number of trucks sold in Russia between January and March was 59 percent up on the same period last year.
