Egypt's Mubarak and two sons detained

After being treated for heart problems overnight, Egypt’s ousted leader Hosni Mubarak has been placed in detention for 15 days.

Anti-Mubarak protesters gathered outside the hospital in Sharm el-Sheikh, shouting: “We want our money! We want the thief to be tried!”

The ex-president reportedly fell ill during questioning over the killing of demonstrators in the revolution that toppled him and the embezzlement of public funds.

State television said his sons Alaa and Gamal were also being detained for 15 days as investigations into corruption and state violence in Egypt continue.

Many Egyptians believed Gamal, Mubarak’s younger son, was being groomed to take over the presidency from his 82-year-old father. Mubarak has said details of his sons’ bank accounts will disprove suspicions of profiteering and illegal gains.
