Libyan rebels reject AU ceasefire proposal

Libyan government forces have launched attacks on the western city of Misrata with rebels claiming five people have been killed and 20 injured.

It is being reported Misrata was hit by Russian- made Grad rockets early in the morning, the city is a solitary rebel base in the west which has been under siege for weeks.

With NATO aircraft still over Libya the African Union held talks with Colonel Gadaffi. The AU said he had accepted their road-map to peace. But the rebel leadership in Benghazi has rejected the ceasefire proposed in the AU plan.

The delegation of African leaders was given a noisy and sometimes hostile reception in Benghazi.

Rebels said they rejected the plan because it did not address their main demand – the removal of Muammar Gadaffi.

Furthermore, the rebels said it proposed the reforming of a ruling system that they want removed altogether.
