Hamas now says it is willing to end the recent escalation of fighting with Israel, after the Israeli Defence Minister said his country is open to a ceasefire.
On Saturday night Palestinian militants in Gaza fired more than 30 rockets and upwards of 10 mortars into Israel.
The Israeli government has previously stated that its attacks on Gaza will continue as long as the militants continue to fire.
Over the past few days 19 Palstinian militants and civilians have been killed and more wounded in attacks on Gaza.
Hamas says Palestinian factions are not interested in an escalation.
But Israel says it has been targeted by over 120 rockets and mortars since it retaliated for an attack on a school bus on Thursday, in which a teenager was critically wounded.
The continuing tit-for-tat raids are increasing the chances of full-scale military confrontation.
