Strasbourg is facing a resurgent campaign to stop the European Parliament using it as its once-a-month base, which is expensive.

Strasbourg was made a part-time parliamentary host city as a symbol of post-war reconciliation.

But now many think it is time to look to the future.

Briton Edward McMillan-Scott has been arguing for years to re-centre operations in Brussels.

Strasbourg Mayor Roland Ries, however, wants it to be the exclusive European capital.

If the Parliament were to disappear from the French city, it would need something of equally notable stature to take its place.
