Berlin treasure hunt has paintings as the prize

It is the ultimate in “finders keepers” for lovers of hard-hitting street art.

American painter Greg Haberny is hiding one of his “in your face” creations every night in a public place in Berlin. And whoever should stumble across it can hold onto the original work. Some are worth a cool 7,000 euros.

“They are actually not only finding it, they are like stalking out in front of the gallery and waiting,” Haberny said. “The other night, we were followed and trailed.”

Around midnight, Greg hits the road to conceal his latest painting. Indications of the hiding place can be found on the artist’s website.

But, as he headed downtown, a reception committee was waiting. Art hunters were on the spot to welcome Greg and claim their prize.

“Really fast,” Haberny laughed. “We did not even get to the destination where we were supposed to go, so tomorrow night it is going to be impossible.”

And for those not lucky enough to take a prize home from the treasure hunt, there is still the chance to see Greg Haberny’s work at his exhibition in Berlin.
