UN Secretary Genera Ban Ki-moon has condemned the killing of the United Nations staff as “outrageous” and “cowardly.”

Ban told reporters at a press conference in Nairobi that there could be no justification for the killings.

“This was an outrageous and cowardly attack against the UN staff which can not be justified under any circumstances and I condemn it in the strongest possible terms,” he said.

Susan Rice, the US envoy to the UN, also hit out at the killings.

“I strongly condemn the horrific and senseless attack on the United Nations operations centre in Mazar-i-Sharif,” she said.

“It is inexcusable that these brave souls would be targeted for violence. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families and friends of those who were killed or wounded,” Rice added.

The burning of the Koran last month has caused uproar among millions of Muslims in different parts of the world.
