With the stiffening of popular protests to his 11- year rule President Bashar al-Assad of Syria has made some rare concessions in recent days.
But they are just words for the moment say many opposition figures, adding they do not address Syria’s fundamental problems.
“Any positive signal from the regime is welcome but until now there have been no real messages from Damascus. History cannot wait. Hesitation is dangerous.
I was at the head of a demonstration today and I struggled to convince the protesters to call for a change in the regime, not its overthrow. I call on everyone who is interested in the Syrian situation to understand history and read it correctly. Change is imminent.
We need clear action and the measures announced until now will not be enough,” says Human Rights Activist and opposition member in Daraa Mohammad el-Ammar.
