Fukushima rescue workers contaminated

Two emergency workers have been taken to hospital after they were exposed to high levels of radiation at the Fukushima nuclear plant. The men were laying cables in the turbine hall of reactor number 3 when contaminated water seeped into their boots. One was sent home but two were taken to hospital for decontamination and further tests.

Power has now been restored to the Fukushima plant and they are continuing with work to restore the cooling system for the reactors, which was knocked out by the earthquake that hit Japan on 11 March.
