European court backs Italy over G8 death

The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that an Italian policeman acted in self-defence in shooting dead anti-globalisation protester Carlo Giuilani at the G8 summit in Genoa ten years ago.

The judges overturned a previous ruling by a majority of ten to seven.

The summit was marred by extreme violence by both protesters and police.
