The good times have been rolling in New Orleans as America’s party city celebrates the end of this year’s Mardi Gras parade.
Mardi Gras is a centuries-old tradition with Christian roots marking the start of the 40 days of Lent.
In New Orleans, the festival runs for five days and is known as one of the most drunken and debauched parties in the United States.
The Big Easy has been through some bad times in recent years, Hurricane Katrina wreaked destruction in 2005, while a huge oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico last April hit the city’s tourist industry.
It might have been the night before Lent but revellers showed little sign of any restraint as they partied well into the night.
It’s no wonder the locals call New Orleans, ‘the City That Care Forgot.’
