It is the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day and events to celebrate women’s achievements have been planned the world over.

In Poland campaigners pressed for a wider debate on women’s rights and discrimination especially in the workplace.

More than 8,000 women ran a 10 km race in Mexico City. Organisers there said they want to encourage women to set goals in life, and make them come true.

There are few causes promoted by the United Nations that have such firm and widespread support.

The theme this year focuses on equal access to education, training and science and technology.

And James Bond actors Dame Judi Dench and Daniel Craig featured in a short film to highlighting pay inequality and sexual violence.
