Gunfire on the streets of Abidjan

Fresh gunbattles have broken out in Abidjan in Ivory Coast.

Reports claim forces loyal to disputed president Laurent Gbagbo launched an attack on a part of the city occupied by armed supporters of presidential rival Alassane Ouattara.

The latest violence follows Tuesday’s clashes, which saw Ouattara’s militia repel an attack on its compound.

At least 15 people lost their lives.

Witnesses claim civilians are leaving the city in droves.

More than 300 people are believed to have died since November’s contentious election.
