Egyptian star apologises for failing to back protests

In a very public show of remorse, a leading Egyptian pop star has said sorry for failing to throw his support behind the country’s uprising from the start.

One of the Arab world’s music icons, Tamer Hosny is seen in ‘YouTube’ footage looking distraught after an ill-fated trip to Tahrir Square to try to join the protest movement, belatedly.

Demonstrators forced him to leave, manhandling the singer and denouncing him for making pro-Mubarak statements earlier.

“I want to die today,” Hosny sobbed on the video, saying he simply wanted to tell protesters that he had misunderstood the situation.
