France's 2010 trade deficit grows

France’s trade deficit widened to 51 billion euros last year, from 44 billion in 2009.

Announcing the figures, Pierre Lellouche, the junior trade minister for the euro zone’s second largest economy, said the deficit is not a problem of the euro.

He said industry in France has weakened, adding “We must improve in exports, we can’t be importers who pay for it by credit.”

Lellouche called for stronger state support for French companies seeking to sell their goods overseas.
