In Denmark a Somali man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for trying to kill a cartoonist whose drawing of the Prophet Mohamad provoked Muslim outrage around the world. After serving his sentence Muhudiin Mohamad Geele will be expelled from the country.
His intended victim, Kurt Westergaard, became a symbol of freedom of speech in Denmark after his cartoon was published in 2005. The court said the attempted attack on him was intended to frighten the population and destabilise society.
It was this that led to the charge of attempted terrorism,as well as attempted manslaughter for the attack which happened in 2010
