Egypt’s embattled president Hosni Mubarak has visited a military headquarters.
State television has broadcast pictures of him meeting with Omar Suleiman, his new Vice President. He also met Defence Minister Mohamed Hussein Tantawi and other military commanders. The state news agency said he was reviewing the armed forces headquarters in charge of security operations.
The army in Egypt has always been closely associated with political power and observers say that the army’s actions during this crisis are likely to be pivotal.
