Marketing coup for Hu back in China


The red-carpet treatment that Hu is receiving in the US is getting widespread media coverage in China.

It is being described as a marketing coup for a leader keen to portray himself as progressive.

One man in Beijing said on euronews that the US and China are not supposed to be enemies. He pointed out that Chinese investment in the US is worth hundreds of billions of dollars and that both countries, as super powers, have a high regard for each other’s development.

A woman said the human rights issue is just “an excuse to attack China”. She said the US releases a global report on the issue every year, but doesn’t mention itself. Then China releases a similar report on the US the next day.

Another man said the US was pushing for the increase in the Chinese currency exchange rate for “selfish reasons”, saying they do not care about others. “They just want to take control and have everyone listen to them,” he said.
