Etna eruption shuts Sicily airports


Italy’s Mount Etna has erupted briefly closing two of Sicily’s airports. Despite the volcano spewing out plumes of ash and lava early on Thursday, civil aviation authorities soon reopened the hubs in Catania.

Etna, Europe’s tallest and most active volcano, erupts regularly but usually causes little damage to inhabited areas.
