China denies link to Renault spying case

China has angrily denied any link to an industrial espionage scandal at the French carmaker Renault.

A French government source has been quoted in the media as saying a possible Chinese connection was being investigated.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hong Lei said: “We believe that the accusations that China is behind this case are utterly baseless and irresponsible. The Chinese side cannot accept them.”

Renault has suspended three executives suspected of leaking information on its electric vehicle programme.

The French government today said an inquiry was underway, but there is no official accusation against any individual country.
