FARC call for media debate for release of French… Two French men have been kidnapped by gunmen in the capital of Niger, Niamey.
The assailants burst into a restaurant in a residential area of the city centre and forced the pair into a waiting car before speeding off.
Witnesses say the captives put up a fight but were overpowered.
Five other French citizens are already being held hostage in Niger. The North African wing of al Qaeda said they carried out the abductions last September.
The French foreign ministry in Paris said it was aware of the latest information from Niamey and was in the process of checking the facts.
