For the third straight day since a deadly church bombing, Egypt’s Coptic Christians have unleashed their anger on the streets.

The New Year’s Day attack killed 21 and injured dozens. Protesters claim Muslim-majority Egypt is failing to protect those who follow Christ.

The situation has become explosive according to demonstrator Hani Rashed, taking part in a heated protest rally in Cairo.

“This is our country just as much as it is their’s,” he said. “We need to have a presence. We have to be considered. We are totally placed on the sidelines.”

Copts have clashed with police and Muslims since the presumed suicide attack in Alexandria. Several suspects have been held over the bombing, blamed by authorities on foreign elements.

It is feared the community could be targeted again as it celebrates Orthodox Christmas on January 7.
