Israeli soldiers have shot and killed a Palestinian man said to have approached them in the West Bank holding a glass bottle.

The 24-year-old did not heed orders to halt, Israel’s military said, and the troops manning a checkpoint near Nablus apparently felt threatened.

He is the second Palestinian civilian to die over the weekend in controversial circumstances.

The funeral has taken place of a woman whose death has been condemned as an Israeli “war crime” by the Palestinian Authority.

Jawaher Abu Rahmeh was treated for inhaling gas reportedly fired by Israeli forces. She is said to be the second member of her family to have died in weekly protests against Israel’s West Bank barrier.
