Much-needed supplies of bottled water continue to arrive in Northern Ireland, where some residents have been without supply since Christmas.

Supply is being rotated with tens of thousands of homes affected. Stand pipes are also being used and long queues are forming.

Officials say public health is a major concern.

After an emergency meeting, politicians said the water company should have anticipated the situation:
“It has been shambolic at stages, it has been ineffective, it has not been the kind of organisation that is fit for purpose” said First Minister Peter Robinson.

Northern Ireland Water says it could be next week before the water is back on for everyone.

The worst snow for 25 years in the province, coupled with freezing temperatures meant many pipes burst.

Temperatures rose, the ice in pipes thawed and the ensuing leaks drained reservoirs, forcing the company to turn off the tap.
