Four Spanish police officers have been found guilty of torturing two men arrested for bombing Barajas Airport in Madrid, the day after they were taken into custody in 2008.

One officer has been given a four and a half year sentence, another four years, the others two years each. Eleven other officers were cleared.

The case comes on the fourth anniversary of the bombing in 2006. The blast flattened a multi-storey car park, killed two people and injured 41 others.

At the time, it also ended an ETA ceasefire and ongoing peace talks with the government.

Mattin Sarasola and Igor Portu were convicted in May and sentenced to more than 1,000 years each in jail for planting the bomb.

ETA is said to be about to reinforce its commitment to a ceasefire declared in September.
