In a farming village in southern Italy police have been piecing together clues at a murder scene where five members of one family were wiped out.

61-year-old Domenico Fontana and his four sons aged between 19 and 37 were found on the farm in the village of Filandari.

It is believed one of the sons managed to raise the alarm before dying on his way to hospital.

Reports suggest a 42 year-old man walked into a police station and allegedly confessed to the crimes.

There have been suggestions that more than one gunman was involved in what is thought to have been a dispute over land.

A Romanian man who worked for the family apparently witnessed the shootings at a distance and is being questioned by police.
