Parcel bomb found at Greek embassy in Rome

world news

| |

Bomb disposal experts have disabled a device sent to the Greek embassy in Rome. Police say it was similar to two parcels which exploded at two other embassies in the city last week.

No-one has been hurt. The authorities in Athens say heightened security measures were already in place.

The Greek ambassador in Rome, Michael Cambanis, said the parcel arrived on Friday but remained unopened over Christmas. The building was evacuated.

Two people were injured on Thursday when two package bombs exploded at the Chilean and Swiss embassies.

A group calling itself the “Informal Federation of Anarchy” says it was behind the blasts.

Other suspect packages discovered at several other embassies in Rome on Monday morning turned out to be false alarms.
