Nightmare train journey in France

world news

| |

It is no wonder there was frustration. Passengers on a train in France embarked on a journey that should have taken only about 10 hours.

But delays have meant hundreds of passengers travelling from Strasbourg to the French-Spanish border have had a travel time of more than 26 hours.

It is because of a combination of the icy weather and the fact a driver had worked long hours and had to be replaced mid-route.

One woman passenger said: “I have three children, and we’re stuck here, not knowing what to do. They gave us a lunch box, but the kids are fed up, and we’re all in despair.”

A young man said: “I don’t know anything. They gave us no information, not a word on when we’re supposed to get to the end. It’s been so badly organised.”

At one stop on the journey railway staff did get food to the passengers, but for many that came way too late.

Passengers also complained about a lack of heating when the train came to a standstill in some places.
