A train strike in Argentina has turned passengers into protestors. Riot police were brought in after a transport strike at one of Buenos Aires main train stations triggered a furious reaction from travellers.

The intensity and extent of the violence surprised everyone in the Argentinian capital, not least the police. Stones and bottles were thrown and there are reports that nearby stores were trashed and looted.

Some commuters broke up segments of the concrete concourse to throw at police. Others set fire to the station entrance.

Officers responded by charging the protestors before resorting to tear gas and water cannon to disperse the crowds. At least two people were arrested. 12 are said to have been injured, one seriously.
