South Korea displays military might

world news

South Korea has been holding massive military drills as its president warned of a counter-attack against the North in the event of aggression.

The display of military might comes amid mounting tension between the two sides following a deadly surprise attack by the north on a southern island last month.

While criticising the exercises, which took place near the border in the Pocheon region, the north’s response was uncharacteristically calm.

Analysts believe Pyongyang is now waiting to see if its recent offer to readmit nuclear inspectors will yield results, including a return to talks on its nuclear programme.
