Thousands of Italian students have marched again in protest against a university reform law but there was no repeat of the violence seen a week ago.One of their aims was to speak to Italy’s president.

“The president has been very willing to talk with us. He heard a lot, he listened a lot, and he said he’s willing to read our own proposals, which we are working on within our assemblies,” said one demonstrator.

But the Senate has its own timetable and is set to continue voting on numerous amendments to the bill. Italy’s education minister aims to restructure higher education in Italy to equip students for employment, but critics claim it will merely cut its funding.

The students vow to continue with their protests which they say is not just about education cuts but about getting a generation heard by the country’s politicians.
