Haitian orphans arrive in France

world news

| |

More than 100 Haitian orphans arrived in Paris on Wednesday to enjoy their first white Christmas.

The children were to be adopted by families in France but then their Caribbean homeland was struck by a deadly earthquake and then a cholera outbreak.

The two disasters have further delayed the adoption proceedings.

The French government chartered a plane to bring the 113 orphans from Haiti.

A total of three hundred are set to arrive within the next few days to start a new life in France.

International adoption is a sensitive issue in Haiti.

Earlier this year, a group of US missionaries tried to take 33 children out of the country, claiming they had been orphaned.

But it later emerged they all had at least one living parent.
