Iraq prepares to unveil new government

world news

Iraq is expected to unveil its new government today after it was delayed following ongoing disputes among rival political factions.

Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki planned to announce his new cabinet yesterday but was derailed by continued squabbles over a host of ministerial posts.

Speaking earlier al-Maliki dismissed the difficulties, saying: ‘‘The government of national unity has established common ground to work together in the national interest.’‘

Iraq has been in political limbo since its inconclusive election in March.

The final deadline for the cabinet’s approval is at the end of the week with all eyes on who gets control of Iraq’s key oil ministry.
